  • Greetings Gordon.
Nice piece of kit you have but I'm pretty happy with the 150mm SkyWatcher job.
I think that the technicalities of proper imaging would detract from my juvenile "looking at things" activities.
Books and your website can do the piccies for me...thanks.

  • Gordon,
Just found your site through the Light Polluted Astrophotography Group in Yahoo. I just wanted to say that your site is very professional and I have been enjoying poring through your images and commentary. I'm new to astronomy but, like you, had an interest early in life (Apollo) but was not in a position to pursue it until now. I've just recently acquired a C9.25 and CGEM and am looking forward to using on some good skies when I get back from my assignment in China (25 days!). Please keep up the excellent work as I will be checking back to see and, I'm sure, admire your outstanding efforts. Cheers,
    Gordon

  • Great page especially about the "Pointers". My father & I raised English points early on mostly for bird hunting. Later after being married we ended up with 2 different German Pointers and so began our experiences. They are both gone now but not forgot. We currently have a "Rat Terrier" who I affectionately call the Yard Boss.
I too life in what we called the Columbus Nebula here in central Ohio. I use mostly my TakE180 and am starting to move towards different filters. You might want to check out Hutech's V3 designed for Nebula's.
More later as I have a retired gent I have breakfast with on Sunday's.

We met at Astrofest today - you gave me a huge amount of useful info re- autoguiding etc.
Excellent site - I read you section 'night of imaging'. You mentioned that you had an electric focusser but prefer manual - surely with the electric item could you not achieve everything from the warmth of your lounge?
I have thought of acquiring en electric focusser but Simon put me off! I use a WO Crayford with a fine adjustment knob which, I have to say is excellent - however the thought of the remote-in-the-warmth control still tempts!
    Best wishes.

  • Great site and fantastic setup. I'm looking at getting a TMB 115 APO and found your site while searhing for more information on it. Judging by the images you have taken with it I can see I wouldn't be disappointed with the optical quality! I'd really be interested to know how long the TMB takes to reach thermal equilibrium on average. I have a 6" Maksutov Cassegrain at the moment and although it is a very good scope it does take a long time to cool down (3 hours or more). This has served to prevent me from using it on many occassions as I don't have an observatory. Anyway, keep up the good work and clear skies!
